Many people ask us how they can cleanse their crystals after taking them home.
Crystals have the ability to receive, store, and transmit energy. By the time you bring your stone home, it will have picked up on the surrounding energy of each person and place it has been in contact with. For this reason, it is important to routinely cleanse crystals of unwanted or negative energy, especially if you are wearing them or using them.
Whether you’re wearing or using your stones for healing, it’s advisable to cleanse them before and after use. Your intention plays an important role in this process, you want to make sure that you are in a positive mood whilst doing this and if you have a specific purpose for an individual stone then mentally share that intent with the stone as you cleanse it.
Below are a number of ways in which you can do this. Doing this on a full or new moon is best as you can embrace the moons energy to enhance your intentions.
If you live near a natural source of running water for example a stream, river, lake or pond you can submerge your stones under the water for around 5 minutes whilst visualizing any negative energy being washed away by the water. A good way to do this is to use a sieve or colander to hold the crystals so you don’t lose them. As you do this more often you may intuitively feel how long to do this for.
If you aren’t able to get to a natural water source this can be done in a glass container (to avoid chemicals from materials such as plastic), using natural or purified water.
Use caution when using this method to cleanse stones as some stones may dissolve or be damaged when placed in water (i.e. selenite, calcite, flourite).
Much the same as with natural water, if you can get to a natural source do, if not you can make your own solution in a glass container using approximately 2 teaspoons of salt to every 8 ounces water. Leave your stones in the water overnight and rinse well when you remove them to clear any salt residue. As with water, use caution when using this method to cleanse stones as some stones may dissolve or be damaged when placed in water (i.e. selenite, calcite, flourite).
Place your crystal in a glass container of sea salt and leave overnight. It is best to completely cover the stone with the salt.
To clear a stone using your breath, you must first clear your mind of any outside thoughts. Then, hold the crystal and breathe out forcefully while quickly waving your other hand over the crystal.
Place your crystal in a glass container of brown rice and leave overnight. It is best to completely cover the stone with the rice.
Smudging is performed by burning either Sage Smudge Sticks or Incense Sticks then holding the crystals in the smoke for approximately two to three minutes, to cleanse stored energies.
A crystal singing bowl may be used to cleanse your crystals. There are two ways to do this. If the stones are small you may put them into the crystal singing bowl. For bigger items, place them close to the bowl, then play the bowl for a few minutes. The sounds emitted by the bowl will resonate throughout the room. As the vibration of the crystal singing bowl fills the crystals, it will cleanse them.
One of the means of cleaning crystals is to bury them in the earth but again make sure that you know if the stone is one that can take moisture. It’s advisable to either mark where you bury your stones or do it within a flower pot so as not to lose them. It is up to you how long to leave them, some people say overnight and others up to a week depending on the use of their stones.
Hold your crystal in your hands and breathe deeply. While focusing on your breath, try to feel the stones energy. Visualize, healing light filling the stone until all negativity has been dissolved. See the light expand until it surrounds the stone and fills your hands. Intend that all negativity be removed from the stone and dissolved. When you intuitively feel that the stone has been cleared, you may stop the visualization.
Once your crystals have been cleansed, you may want to energise them. You can do this by using the sun and moonlight,
preferably during the full or new moon, for at least one full day or night leave them on a windowsill where they can absorb the energy.
